How to Avoid A Golf Injury
One of the most important injury prevention methods for any sport or physical activity is stretching.
It’s something you’ve heard since you were a kid—but it’s easy to skip in the moment: stretching matters. For golfers of all ages and skill levels in Brookfield, Wauwatosa, and the greater Milwaukee area, proper stretching and flexibility work can play a major role in preventing injury.
Before teeing off, take a few minutes to warm up your body. Here are a few effective stretches you can do right on the course:
Standing Pelvic Tilts:
Start with your arms crossed over your chest. Tuck your pelvis under to create a posterior tilt, then arch your back to create an anterior tilt. Return to a neutral position. Repeat five times in each direction.Trunk Rotation:
Stand upright, cross your arms, and place each hand on the opposite shoulder. Rotate from your core while breathing steadily. Repeat 10 times in each direction.Hip Flexor Stretch:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and step forward into a lunge. Keep your body upright, engage your glutes, and gently lean forward at the hips. Hold briefly, then return to start. Repeat 10 times on each side.Shoulder Stretch with Club Behind Back:
Hold a club or towel in one hand and bring that arm overhead, letting it rest behind your back. Reach your other arm behind your lower back to grasp the club or towel. Gently pull to stretch, then release. Repeat five times on each side.
Another important step is easing into your round with a light warm-up. Start by hitting a few balls, beginning with a wedge and gradually working up to your driver. Jumping straight into full swings can put unnecessary strain on your body.
If you experience ongoing pain during golf season, it’s important to address it early to prevent further injury. Proper preparation before, during, and after activity helps keep your body strong, flexible, and performing at its best.
